Easily one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Glacier National Park delivers jagged peaks, turquoise lakes, and dramatic alpine scenery at every turn. Going-to-the-Sun Road alone is worth the trip, but many of the park’s best views are found on the trails, especially Grinnell Glacier and Hidden Lake. The park is divided into multiple regions, each packed with hikes, so you could easily spend a full week here without running out of things to explore.
As long as you get out on a few hikes, wildlife sightings feel almost guaranteed. On a single hike (the Grinnell Glacier Trail), I saw moose, elk, black bear, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. The only real downside is how busy the park gets, so starting early in the day is essential. For fewer crowds and incredible color, visit in September to catch fall foliage along the east side of the park. If you only ever visit one national park in your life, this is the one to choose.
