Hello, I am Eric Wagner, a world traveler. This is subjective tier list of the countries I have visited. Each one will also include notable destinations within the country. Countries within a tier can often be ranked differently based on personal preferences. It is important to note that I'm only basing this on the places I've been to, so France will currently be judged off Marseille and not Paris. The top three destinations considered are included below the country name. Additionally, islands and territories that are far enough from the mainland will be considered separate "countries" to be more consistent with the semantics of travel. Below are the explanation of the tiers.
S: Best of the best and belong on everyone's bucket list, as they are often unique, spectacular, and large enough to fill out a week.
A: Often just missing one thing and would rank higher if they had more to do or if the scenery was a bit more unique or spectacular; these are still great countries, often being perfect for weekend trips or pairing with nearby destinations.
B: May or may not be worth planning trips around depending on personal preference; should be priority destinations if nearby.
C: Still worth visiting, but not always recommended destinations due to not being unique or spectacular enough.
D: Doesn't really offer anything worthwhile that isn't easily accessible elsewhere.
Italy is home to some of the best archeological sites, including Pompeii. With great food, scenic coastlines, and impressive architecture, it comes out atop this list.
Future Plans: Dolomites, Milan, and revisiting Rome
Sitting directly on top of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Iceland is home to volcanic activity, waterfalls, glaciers, and fjords. There's also the potentially of seeing the northern lights if you get lucky.
Future Plans: Revisit with more dedicated time to do a full loop
Somehow underrated, the United States has tons of easily accessible national and state parks. It may not have as much history in its cities, but its nature is unmatched.
Future Plans: Hit up the national parks in Alaska & Hawaii
Canada's national parks have some of the most photographed lakes and most scenic towns. While freezing during the winter, it's the ultimate summer destination.
Future Plans: Going back to Banff and staying at Lake Louise Inn
It feels great walking around Amsterdam, as while it's not the most spectacular destination, it's easy and comfortable with plenty to do in a small area.
Future Plans: Revisiting eventually, but not a high priority
With turqoise water and white sand, Grace Bay Beach is a world-class destination. There's no better place to relax and dine on high-quality seafood.
Future Plans: May visit again, but want to see other Caribbean islands first
The Greek Isles are unlike anything else in the world, with unique architecture and endless coastal views. The Acropolis of Athens gets ridiculously crowded, but the food in the surrounding area is outstanding.
Future Plans: More time in Santorini
Thanks to Antoni Gaudí's, Barcelona has some of the most unique and beautiful architecture in the world. With so much to see in one city, you will never be bored.
Future Plans: Would visit Barcelona again, but might add Madrid and Seville
Ephesus rivals Pompeii for the best maintained roman ruins, and is arguably more spectacular with the grand Library of Celsus. Istanbul is home to some of the most famous mosques, but can feel overwhelming with people trying to get you to buy from their store.
Future Plans: Maybe an inland trip to Cappadocia
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is one of the best in the world, while the Pyramids are a sight to behold. Scammers tend to be around the older areas, but are nonexistent in the Museum and New Cairo City.
Future Plans: A nile cruise to see Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel
Great for food and home to gorgeous churches. I'm sure France will jump higher once I visit some of its other areas like Paris and Nice.
Future Plans: Paris is a must-see destination
The Guinness in Dublin is so good it's like desert. While not a standout like the previous countries, it holds its own through historical buildings and picturesque towns.
Future Plans: N/A
Very calm and scenic, Montenegro is a great complement to some of the busier spots on this list.
Future Plans: N/A
Another place that would probably be higher if I visited more of it, Croatia is probably one of the best nature destinations in Europe.
Future Plans: Maybe Plitvice Lakes and/or Dubrovnik
A solid trip and one of the cooler castles I've visited. Might be higher on the list if I did more than one spot.
Future Plans: N/A
Carthage is cool, but it's not as great as the other Mediterranean ruins and scammers are relentless.
